On the Couch Series with Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams

Join us for another On the Couch series where a high achieving individual is interviewed by Assistant Commissioner Peter Harvey about their public sector ‘journey’, their experiences and why they have chosen their career and current role. Since its inception this series has acted as the host for a very significant number of former and current public sector leaders.

Our next guest, Linda Williams, is the Deputy Commissioner for South Australia Police. The Deputy Commissioner will be interviewed about her intriguing story, her career path, aspirations and what she sees as her priorities in her current role.

Linda Williams
Deputy Commissioner
South Australia Police

Linda Williams was appointed Deputy Police Commissioner on 21 July 2015 after 35 years in policing and five years in SAPOL’s senior management and executive team. As Deputy Commissioner, Linda is responsible for managing all state wide police activities and operations to satisfy existing and emerging community needs.

Linda’s executive responsibilities include representing the state of South Australia on the Australia New Zealand Counter Terrorism Committee (ANZCTC) and being the Chairperson of the ANZCTC Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Security Sub Committee.

Linda’s extensive career history spans all essential policing areas. These include patrol duties, specialist crime prevention activities, firearms and communications including managing state-wide triple zero and 131 444 calls, road safety, prosecution, licensing enforcement and leading SAPOL’s major contribution to the Criminal Justice Sector Reform Program.

Married with children and now the proud grandparent of two young grandchildren, her interests include reading, cooking, music and I enjoy just being with friends and family.

Her family migrated from Scotland to Australia when she was 13. She have two sisters, one sister is a nurse and the other is a lawyer.

Linda been a Board Director on Police Health since 2010 and is also a Board Director for the Emergency Service Health since 2017. She iscommitted to improving the health and wellbeing of the policing and emergency services community.
