Appointed in July 2019, Ms Leonie Muldoon is responsible for leading the South Australian Growth Agenda, which came out of a March review of the state’s “international and interstate engagement” activities and agencies by New Zealand’s former Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce.

Leonie Muldoon

Chief Executive
Department for Trade and Investment

Leonie Muldoon is the Chief Executive of the Department for Trade and Investment.

Leonie has extensive trade and investment expertise across multiple international markets, having worked with Austrade most recently as the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner Singapore and previously as Investment Commissioner for Japan and later, North Asia where she was responsible for inbound investment from the region into Australia; Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner and Country Manager Japan and as General Manager South Asia, carrying responsibility for India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Leonie is a lawyer by profession having been a Partner with Mallesons Stephen Jacques in their Sydney Banking and Finance practice.

She also has commercial experience, having been responsible for leadership and management of a range of businesses in diverse sectors, spanning call centres (Sitel Corporation-CEO Australia and COO Asia Pacific), consulting, training (General Manager Professional Service-Standards Australia, later SAI Global) and online legal publishing (CEO-TimeBase).

Leonie holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law with Honours from Monash University, and a Master of Law from Columbia University in New York. She also speaks Japanese.
