Australia is one of many countries which have recently seen significant advances for the protection of the rights of sexuality and gender diverse people.
From the peak of the international human rights regimes at the UN, to local government areas around the world, LGBTI rights have found support and institutionalisation. But controversy and contestation remain, including here in Australia, where relationship recognition and discrimination protection have been extensively implemented.
This masterclass will examine global trends and consider local contexts. Ongoing challenges in Australia and elsewhere will be discussed, along with the capacity of public institutions and political advocacy to address them.
