Overview

Equip yourself with the skills to provide crucial initial support to your team and colleagues facing mental health challenges. This training teaches you how to respond effectively during a mental health crisis or problem until professional help is available, following a practical, evidence-based Action Plan. Developed with input from individuals with lived experience and mental health professionals, this training ensures you are prepared and confident in offering support.

Here’s how it works:

  1. E-learning Access: Six weeks before your scheduled face-to-face session, you’ll receive an email with a link to the online learning material
  2. Complete the Online Module: Finish the e-learning module before attending the in-person session to qualify for accreditation.

Mental health crises covered are;

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use disorder
  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
  • Aggressive behaviour’s

Full Online Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Courses include two components:

  • Course Component 1 A self-paced eLearning component (takes 5-7 hours to complete)
  • Course Component 2 4 hour face-to-face session with a Breakthrough Research Foundation facilitator

Why attend Mental Health First Aid Training 

Evaluations consistently show that MHFA training is associated with improved knowledge of mental illnesses, their treatments and appropriate first aid strategies, and confidence in providing first aid to individuals with mental illness. It is also associated with decreased stigma and an increase in the help provided.
