Prime Minister delivers Lowitja O’Donoghue Oration in Adelaide – Watch it now

(please note: a transcript and closed captioning will be made available in the coming weeks)

Mr Albanese was the first sitting Prime Minister to undertake the Orator role at the event, held on Monday, May 29, during National Reconciliation Week 2023.

The Oration honours the influential Aboriginal leader, Dr Lowitja O’Donoghue AC CBE DSG and seeks to highlight vital issues for Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples.

Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide and Don Dunstan Foundation chair, said the Foundation was honoured to host the Prime Minister, especially at such a
a critical time in the nation’s history.

“The Oration gives voice to issues of equity and equality for Australia’s First Peoples, and right now, that is more important and pertinent than ever,” Dr Lomax-Smith said. “In a few months, Australians will vote in a referendum to change the future for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people now and for generations to come.“This is an opportunity for people from a range of backgrounds to hear directly from the Prime Minister why a yes vote will advance reconciliation and close the gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people across the country.”

The Oration is presented by the Don Dunstan Foundation in collaboration with Reconciliation SA, The University of Adelaide. If you have any questions about this event please contact the Don Dunstan Foundation
