For many years, IPAA SA has proudly hosted the Don Dunstan Oration, an annual event celebrating the legacy of one of South Australia’s most visionary and reform-focused leaders. Each year, this special occasion brings together our public sector community to reflect on leadership, reform and social progress inspired by Don Dunstan’s enduring contribution to South Australia.

We are thrilled to announce that The Hon. Susan Close MP, Former Deputy Premier of South Australia, will deliver the 2025 Don Dunstan Oration, focusing on democracy, civic participation, and the environment.

How robust is our democracy in the age of intergenerational inequity, increasing inequality of wealth and volatile geopolitics? The former deputy premier, Susan Close, will consider the importance of addressing at least three complex issues if we are to maintain the fundamentals of a strong democracy. She proposes that we need to fix our segregated education system to make a just economic transition, we need to redraw our economic relationship with nature to avert climate catastrophe, and we need to demonstrate to the public that government (political and civil service) are of value to them.

Stay tuned for more details on what the Hon. Susan Close will be discussing with us. We look forward to welcoming you to another remarkable celebration of public leadership and ideas shaping South Australia’s future.

Please note: This event is proudly hosted and funded by IPAA SA to support and enhance the public sector.
