About the training

With approximately 20% of Australian adults experiencing a common mental illness each year, Mental Health First Aid training provides participants with practical skills to support a friend, family member, client or colleague until appropriate professional help is available.

Workplaces play an important role in supporting the mental wellbeing of their employees. Just as organisations have physical first aid officers, Mental Health First Aid training helps build the capability of employees to recognise and respond appropriately when someone may be experiencing mental ill health.

Developed in collaboration with mental health professionals and people with lived experience, MHFA training equips participants to:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of mental ill health
  • Understand potential causes and risk factors
  • Understand evidence-based treatments and supports
  • Provide appropriate support to someone experiencing mental ill health
  • Respond confidently and appropriately in a mental health crisis
