IPAA SA’s On the Couch sessions are a series of informal interviews with key leaders of the public sector. In their current roles, these leaders are seen as having a high degree of responsibility and influence over the future of the public sector and the people who work within it.

These interviews are aimed at looking at the person behind the role and focus on their interests, influences, leadership styles, career highlights, journey, aspirations, values and what they see as their priorities in their current role and insights for the future.

Our special guest for this event was Tony Braxton-Smith, Chief Executive, Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure. Mr Braxton-Smith became commenced in this role in October. Tony is also the SA Rail Commissioner and Commissioner for Highways.

This was an opportunity to hear first-hand about the life and ideas of Tony Braxton-Smith in an informal interview. The interview concluded with a brief Q&A session with questions from the audience.

Tony Braxton-Smith

Chief Executive
Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure

Tony Braxton-Smith became Chief Executive of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure in October 2018. He is also the SA Rail Commissioner and Commissioner for Highways.

This new role encompasses overseeing a broad range of government objectives ensuring the effective delivery of services involving planning, transport and valuable social and economic infrastructure throughout the State of South Australia.

Formerly the Deputy Secretary Customer Services at Transport for NSW for 7 years, Tony’s prior career spans 20 years in senior executive roles in the private sector with Great Southern Rail and Serco; Dreamworld and the P&O Group.
