Overview

The Mental Health First Aid for Public Sector Course, which combines online and self-paced learning, equips participants with the skills to offer initial support to team members and colleagues facing mental health challenges. It covers providing assistance until professional help is available or the crisis subsides, employing a practical and evidence-based Action Plan. The course is grounded in guidelines formulated through the collective expertise of individuals with firsthand experience of mental health issues and professionals.

Mental health problems covered in this training are;

  • Depression
  • Anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered are;

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
  • Aggressive behaviors

Format

Full Online Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Courses include two components:

  • Course Component 1 A self-paced eLearning component (takes 5-7 hours to complete)
  • Course Component 2 An Instructor-led component using Microsoft Teams
